Safe Ice Skating Guidelines

• Wear gloves – Gloves are not available at the venue.
• Bring a thick pair of socks, these will ensure that your feet are comfortable while skating.
• The use of helmets, knee pads and elbow pads is recommended.
• The use of any handheld equipment such as cameras, music players are not permitted whilst skating on the ice.
• Trailing clothing is not permitted whilst skating.
• Any persons at this venue, who in the opinion of the Ice Marshals, represent a danger to themselves or others will be asked to leave the rink.
• Any persons at this venue, who in the opinion of the Ice Marshals have consumed alcohol or any other substance likely to impair their balance will not be allowed on the rink.
• Any persons at this venue, whose behaviour may be deemed as likely to cause offence to others will be asked to leave the rink.
• The public areas of the venue and all sessions are recorded on CCTV.
• At no point are skaters permitted to form trains whilst skating.
• Please pay attention to the safety announcement prior to each session, watch the our Safe Skating video below and follow the advice offered by Ice Marshals.
• While all reasonable measures are put in place to ensure your safety at Swords on Ice, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of the safety information when entering the rink. It is your responsibility to bring to the attention of the Ice Marshal any event or act which may impact on your family safety while skating.
• In the event of an accident, Swords on Ice will have a qualified person on duty to provide first aid.
• When your skating session has ended you will be directed to the exit point by the Ice Marshal and Public Address system. You are ask to please exit the rink in an orderly manner.
• If your child is a young toddler they may not fully understand all of the rules and the Ice Marshal’s instructions so we ask parents to keep extra close eye on the little one at all times.
• Always pay attention to the skaters around you and pay special attention to skaters ahead of you as they cannot see you coming.

Remember that ice skating can be a fun activity for you, your friends and the whole family, as long as the rules of safety are closely followed.

If your children are new to skating it is best to take them during a time when Swords on Ice rink is less crowded. You can call us on 01 5242101 to find out when the rink is not as crowded and choose this time to take them.

Q. Are sessions supervised?
A. Ice Marshalls are present on the rink during all sessions and you are required to adhere to the safe skating guidelines

Q. Do I need special clothing?

Q. What about safety equipment?
A. Helmets are available at the venue. We also recommend knee pads, elbow pads and wrist bands. Feel free to bring your own safety equipment.

Q. Can I bring my camera?
A. The use of cameras, music players or any hand-held equipment is not permitted whilst skating.

Q. Can I have a drink beforehand?
A. Persons who in the opinion of the Ice Marshals have consumed alcohol or any other substance likely to impair their balance will not be allowed on the rink.

Q. Are the Skating sessions recorded?
A. The public areas of the venue and all sessions are recorded on CCTV

Q. Is there a qualified first aid person on site?
A. In the event of an accident, Swords On Ice will have a qualified person on duty to provide first aid.

Q. Do you have a cloakroom?
A. Yes, we have an area where you can store coats, bags and other items while you skate.
